The self-declared goal of many university humanities departments is first and foremost to further social justice. It is as if the last line of Yeats’ great poem, “Aedh Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven,” ”Tread softly because you tread on my dreams,” had been reversed to read something like: “Lie quietly, whilst my dreams tread on you.”
