Desire and Fate

In eras of intellectual conformity such as the one in which we are living, awareness becomes a form of suffering. And, quite rightly, most people don’t want to suffer. It is this, rather than political or social pressure per se, which forms the deepest motivation for the self-censorship that so defines contemporary intellectual life.
