The conviction that those who have been terribly wronged cannot wrong and those who have been terribly oppressed cannot oppress is one of the greatest contemporary misdescriptions of the reality of the world. The truth of the matter is with Shylock: “And if you wrong us, do we not revenge? If we are like you in the rest, we will resemble you in that.”
